I know what it’s like to go hunting. I know what it’s like to prepare all the guns. I know what it’s like to gather all the ammunition. I know how it feels to impatiently scout a field to see if the dove use that field. I know what it’s like to finally get out in that field and load three 12 gauge shotgun shells into my gun. I know how it feels when that first bird flies right over your head. I know what it’s like to take that gun to your shoulder, pull the trigger and watch that bird continue to fly perfectly. I know that feeling when the second bird flies over your head. The you put the gun to your shoulder aim and fire. I know what it’s like to see that first bird go down. That feeling when you just think to yourself and maybe even say “hell yeah”. I know what it’s like to shoot about 75 shells and get your limit of 15 birds (maybe even more if you don’t get caught). I know what it’s like to finally shoot your first double. A double is when you shoot two birds out of the same flock. I know what it’s like to see my younger brother finally kill his first dove ever.

I know what it’s like to pluck all the feathers off of 59 dove. It is not fun. I know what it’s like to clean all the birds. Meaning pulling all of the guts out of the bird.

I know what it’s like to leave that hunting field for the last time. The depressing feeling when you realize that that next morning you will not be going out there. I know what it’s like to put those birds on ice to keep them fresh. I know what it’s like to have drive home about 6 hours in traffic. I know what it’s like to finally get home and put those birds in salt water (to draw out the blood). I know what it’s like to bacon wrap those little dove. I know what it’s like to throw those birds o the barbeque and impatiently wait for them to be cooked. I know that feeling when when they are finally done cooking and we can feast soon. I know that feeling when you pick off that dove breast and shove it in your mouth. Finally all the hard work has payed off. The bacon-wrapped dove tastes like tri-tip. It is so delicious. It tastes so good.

I know what it’s like to go hunting. I know what it’s like to go through the whole process of preparing, going out there killing, cleaning, then eating.
